Summerdale

Elizabeth was a pre-student at Shotley Bridge Hospital. She lived at Castleside and commuted to the hospital every day. She started as a pre-student age 16 years on the 2nd January 1956. As a pre-student she was essentially a skivvy!

In April 1957 when she turned 18 she became a student nurse and for the first three months lived at Summerdale which was the Nurse’s home. The nursing students lived there and there was also a classroom.

Once qualilfied she worked as a staff nurse at Shotley Bridge General Hospital on the Orthapaedic Ward before deciding to train as a midwife.
